Vermox (Mebendazole) is used to treat infections caused by worms such as whipworm, pinworm, roundworm, and hookworm. Vermox prevents the growth of the worms in the body and plays a major role in treating the intestinal worm infections.How to use
Use Vermox as directed by your doctor.
- Use as directed on the package, unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.
- Vermox tablets may be swallowed, chewed, or crushed and mixed with food.
- It may be up to 3 days after treatment before the worm is removed from your stomach and intestines. The amount of time it takes to cure the infection depends on how susceptible the worm is to Vermox, and how quickly your own digestive system is moving. If the infection has not been cured within 3 weeks, a second treatment may be necessary.
- Treatment of family members and other close contacts may be necessary. Pinworm is spread very easily to others in close contact with the infected person.
Drug Class and Mechanism
Vermox is an antihelmintic, or anti-worm,
medication. It prevents worms from growing or multiplying in your body. Vermox operates by inhibiting the uptake of glucose from the body
thereby resulting in energy loss and death of the worm. Vermox is a
synthetic broad-spectrum anti-helmintic medicine which is available as
chewable tablets. Each tablet contains 100 mg of mebendazole. The
medication Vermox is available as orange colored and flavored tablets.
It is also available as a white banana flavored suspension.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.
StorageStore Vermox at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Vermox out of the reach of children and away from pets.
The action of Vermox is best indicated in pinworms hookworms roundworms and whipworms. The duration of the treatment varies from person to person and it must be taken according to the instructions of the physician. For the complete cure of the worm infestation a second course of the drug is compulsorily required. Vermox is available only with the help of a prescription of the doctor. As there are chances for the worm infections to be transmitted from one person to the other person hence the members of the family too should undergo treatment at the same time to prevent re-infection up to some extent.
Vermox is not to be given to children younger than 2 years of age. While taking Vermox there are no restrictions for the person to take any foods beverages or perform any activities.
In case an over dose of Vermox takes place then immediate medical attention is required. Avoid taking double dose of Vermox.
How to use
The medicine Vermox [Mebendazole] is consumed orally and can be swallowed as a whole chewed or crushed and can be taken along with or without food. The dosage of the medicine depends on the type of worm infestation. The dose varies from person to person. Based on the medical condition the number of dose and the duration of the doses differ. Threadworms are killed after a single dose of Vermox while the second dose may be recommended in case of re-infection. For the other types of worm infestation Vermox is usually taken for three consecutive days or is taken as directed by your physician.

Drug Interaction
The effects of Vermox [Mebendazole] are reduced by the medications that are used in the treatment of seizures such as ethotoin phenytoin and carbamazepine. In case the patient consumes medications containing vitamins minerals and herbal products then he should inform the doctor so that the nature of the treatment can be altered.
