Product Description
UsesThis medication is used for the short-term treatment of patients with trouble sleeping (insomnia). It is generally used for 7-10 days. It may help you fall asleep faster and decrease the number of times you awaken during the night. It may also help you sleep for a longer period of time. Dalmane belongs to a class of medications called sedative/hypnotics. It acts on your brain to produce a calming effect.
How to take
Take this medication by mouth, with or without food, usually once nightly, 30 minutes before bedtime; or take as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy.
Side effects
The most common adverse effects are dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness and ataxia. These adverse effects are particularly common in elderly and debilitated patients.
Isolated instances of headache, heartburn, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, gastrointestinal pain, nervousness, apprehension, irritability, weakness, palpitations and chest pains.
There have also been rare occurrences of sweating, flushes, difficulty in focusing, blurred vision, faintness, hypotension, shortness of breath, pruritus, skin rash, dry mouth, bitter taste, excessive salivation, anorexia, euphoria, depression, slurred speech, confusion, restlessness, and hallucinations.
Precaution
Do not drink alcohol or take other medications that depress the central nervous system.
While taking Dalmane do not engage in any hazardous occupations requiring complete mental alertness such as operating machinery or driving a car.
Dalmane is contraindicated in pregnancy. It is recommended to withdraw Dalmane During breast feeding, as Dalmane is excreted in breast milk
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember if it is still near bedtime. If it is already the next day, resume your usual dosing schedule that night at bedtime. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Storage
Store at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Brief storage between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company for more details about how to safely discard your product.
