Uses

Estazolam is used to treat insomnia (trouble sleeping). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
It works by depressing the central nervous system (brain), causing drowsiness to aid in falling asleep.

How to take

Use Estazolam as directed by your doctor.
Take Estazolam by mouth with or without food at bedtime.
If you no longer have time for a full night's sleep or you do not remember until the next day, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
Do not take 2 doses at once.

Side effects

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects.
Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:
Clumsiness or unsteadiness; daytime drowsiness; dizziness; fatigue; feeling of hangover; headache; lightheadedness; nausea; nervousness; sluggishness; unusual weakness.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); depression; chills, fever, or sore throat; fast or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; memory loss; mental or mood changes; shortness of breath; unusual bruising; unusual thoughts or behaviors; urinary changes; vision changes.

Precaution

Some medical conditions may interact with Estazolam.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
If you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
If you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
If you have or have ever had alcoholism or substance abuse or dependence, or if you drink alcohol
If you have depression, mental or mood problems, or a history of suicidal thoughts or behaviors
If you have myasthenia gravis (a condition in which the muscles become progressively paralyzed)
If you have liver or kidney problems, the blood disease porphyria, or glaucoma, or if you are at risk for glaucoma
If you have chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, or other breathing problems

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Estazolam. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines.

Drug interactions

Do not drink alcohol while you are taking Estazolam. It can increase some of the side effects, and could possibly cause a fatal overdose. Estazolam can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert.

Avoid using other medicines that make you sleepy (such as cold medicine, pain medication, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety). They can add to sleepiness caused by estazola

Missed dose

Since estazolam is taken as needed, you are not likely to be on a dosing schedule. Take estazolam only when you have time for several hours of sleep.

Storage

Store at room temperature
between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Keep this medication and all other medications out of the reach of children.
